The Eskridge 130 Series Planetary Gear Drives

The Eskridge 130 Series Planetary Gear Drives  | Ramsey Industries

Machines that swing booms, spin augers, drive wheels, or haul winch line depend on gearboxes sized to the actual loads and duty cycles they see in service. A drive specified to the application maintains uptime and reliability, supporting your build schedule and customer commitments.

For more than 50 years, Eskridge has focused on customer and application needs by offering a versatile range of gearbox products. The Eskridge Series 130 features high-efficiency precision gearing and high-capacity tapered roller bearings for long service life and flexible product configurations. Designed for SAE hydraulic motor standard inputs, these shaft, spindle, and wheel drive options deliver the torque and speed required for industrial machinery and mobile equipment.

The Eskridge 130 Series is engineered for applications requiring a maximum intermittent output torque of 130,000 in-lbs. There are four drives in the series—130, 131, 132, and 133— to cover a range of mounting, loading and connection requirements. Each delivers the same torque class and is configured to fit your machine’s installation envelope and interface.

This overview details the technical distinctions between the four drives and the application conditions that determine which configuration fits your equipment.

“I need torque, but I don’t have the space.”

Every drive in the 130 Series delivers 130,000 in-lbs. of intermittent output torque and 65,000 in-lbs. of continuous torque in a compact planetary package, with input speeds up to 3,000 RPM. Load is distributed across multiple gear meshes, supporting high torque transmission within standard mounting envelopes. Applications include slewing and boom rotation, winch drives, swing drives, conveyor drives, wheel drives, and demolition attachments, without requiring changes to the machine design.

The 130 Series differs by internal shaft diameter, planet gear bearings, and output shaft mounting configurations. Model 130 is the standard option; models 131, 132, and 133 feature larger inner shaft diameters for heavier shaft loading, while model 133 also includes high-performance planet bearings.

“The output shaft is where drives let us down.”

Planetary gear reducers typically fail at the output shaft under heavy shock, bending and reversing loading. Conventional designs use a retainer nut and a retaining ring, which can loosen under high-load conditions.

Every drive in the 130 Series is equipped with Load-N-Lock™ Shaft Retention, engineered by Eskridge for sustained high torque operation. This system positively locks the shaft in place, reducing field failures and warranty claims. Load-N-Lock™ is exclusive to Eskridge drives. The 131 includes the 132L heavy-duty shaft assembly as standard, and the 130 can be specified as the 132L for applications requiring additional shaft strength.

“I don’t want to redesign my machine around a catalog part.”

The 130 Series includes four drives in the same torque class, each with distinct mounting and connection options to meet your equipment’s requirements.

  • 130 Shaft Drive. The most configurable of the four. Flanged, flangeless, eccentric round pilot, rectangular base, square base, or custom mounting, with spline or keyed output shafts and the broadest ratio range.

  • 131 Shaft Drive. The gearbox flange sits farther from the output shaft, providing additional clearance between the shaft and mounting surfaces. Offered with flanged or custom mounted, with shorter output shaft options including a 2 ½ inch hex. Developed to fit installation envelopes not previously covered by Eskridge, this configuration provides an additional option for OEM requirements.

  • 132 Spindle Drive. Spindle output rather than a shaft, with a 10.91 inch diameter face, 7.00 inch pilot, and an eight-bolt pattern on a 9.50 inch bolt circle. A metal face seal option is available for dirty, high-wear environments.

  • 133 Shaft Drive. The same shaft and mounting family as the 130, with a larger output shaft diameter and heavy-duty planet gear bearings.

“I need a supplier who answers fast and delivers.”

Eskridge engineers respond directly to technical questions and application requirements. Lead times run 8 to 16 weeks with no minimum order quantities. The configuration specified is the configuration delivered, supporting your production schedule.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Eskridge 130 Series?

The 130 Series is a family of Eskridge planetary gear drives that share a 130,000 in-lbs maximum intermittent output torque rating: the 130, 131, and 133 shaft-output drives and the 132 spindle-output drive. The series is named for that shared torque rating.

What is a planetary gear drive?

A planetary gear drive, also called a planetary gearbox, multiplies torque by running a central sun gear against multiple planet gears inside a ring gear. Sharing the load across several gear meshes lets a compact unit transmit very high torque relative to its size.

What is the difference between the 130, 131, 132 and 133?

All four share the same torque ratings, input speed, and Load-N-Lock shaft retention. They differ in how they are mounted and connected. The 130 offers the widest range of mounting and ratios. The 131 is a more compact shaft installation built with the 132L heavy-duty shaft assembly. The 132 has a spindle output with a bolt circle face instead of a shaft. The 133 matches the 130 shaft and mounting family with a 132L heavy-duty shaft assembly and high performance planet bearings.

What applications is the 130 Series designed for?

Boom rotation and slewing drives, winch drives, swing drives, conveyor drives, and demolition equipment, across mobile, marine, and industrial applications that need up to 130,000 in-lbs of intermittent torque.

What makes Load-N-Lock™ shaft retention different?

Load-N-Lock is Eskridge’s exclusive output shaft retention system, available only on Eskridge drives. It positively locks the shaft in place rather than relying on a conventional retainer nut and retaining ring, thereby adding durability under shock and reversing loads.

Can 130 Series drives be customized?

Yes. Mounting, input configuration, output shaft or spindle, ratios, and seal options are all configurable, and custom configurations are routine. Talk to an Expert to review the requirements for your machine.

What warranty comes with the 130 Series?

Coverage is 18 months standard plus 18 months with registration, for a total of 36 months.
